Joi AI Review 2026: Neurons, Free Tier, Refunds, and the Price It Does Not Publish

Joi AI is a character-chat and AI girlfriend platform run by Novi Limited of Nicosia, Cyprus, on two domains, joi.ai and the explicit joi.com. Basic is free with six lifetime image generations; Premium prices appear only inside the account. Neurons do the real billing: 4 per romantic message, up to 120 per photo, up to 1,900 per video. The statement shows joi.com. Compared from the terms, refund policy and help centre, read 24 September 2026; no account, nothing bought.

The short verdict

Joi AI publishes the part most companion apps hide and hides the part most publish. The per-action rates are in the terms: “One romantic message costs 4 neurons to be read. One photo view costs up to 120 neurons depending on the theme.

One video view costs up to 1900 neurons depending on the theme.” The subscription price is not on any public page. So you can work out what a night of explicit chat costs in Neurons, but not what a month of Premium costs in dollars until you register. Rates read 24 September 2026.

It probably suits you if:

  • You want a large character catalogue, including official celebrity personas, and a free Basic tier to try it.
  • You would rather pay per photo and per video than watch a generic coin balance.
  • You want a refund policy with named cases and a 14-day clock, which is more than most rivals publish.
  • You accept an automated safety filter that the company itself says over-flags.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You need to know the monthly price before signing up. Joi AI shows it only inside the account.
  • You need a discreet bank statement. The terms say the descriptor is “joi.com”.
  • You want a companion that stays on one topic: the safety list bans political and religious conversation outright.
  • You expect unlimited explicit chat on a subscription. Romantic messages are billed in Neurons on top.

What Joi AI is: two domains, one company

Joi AI is provided by Novi Limited, “reg. number HE 407352, Aglantzias, 62 … Nicosia, Cyprus”, under Terms of Service last updated 4 June 2026 and governed by “the laws of the Republic of Cyprus”. The same terms, footer and refund policy sit on two domains.

The first, joi.ai, presents itself as “Talk to AI Characters Online”. The second, joi.com, is titled “NSFW Character AI Chat – AI Girlfriend Chat Without Limits | JOI Spicy”, opens with an 18+ confirmation and lists explicit characters on its front page. The site’s own build tags label one “safe” and the other “live”.

The catalogue mixes “Joi Original” characters with a “Celebrity” category. On 24 September 2026 the joi.com front page listed AI versions of Amouranth, Nikki Benz, Joanna Angel, CJ Miles, Alexis Fawx and others. Each bio introduces itself as an AI version of the performer.

The about page says as much: “From official digital duplicates of real celebrities to custom characters fresh from your imagination”. These are licensed personas, the company’s own product, and the help centre has a “Creator and Agency Registration” article for performers who want one.

Joi AI pricing: what is published and what is not

Two account levels exist by the terms: “Basic”, which “provides limited access to the Service”, and “Premium”, “a subscription-fee based program” bought “directly on our website using a valid credit or debit card”. Premium is “billed automatically on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis”. Interface strings also name a “Premium Plus” tier with a 10% Neuron discount. None of the four routes we tried, /premium, /pricing, /plans and /subscription, returns a price; each is a 404 without a login.

Bot Subscription (one character)Noterms 3.3: add-on to Premium, no fixed term

Pricing read 24 September 2026. Two more rules from section 3.2 matter for the bill. If a renewal payment “is not completed within 7 days of the due date, your subscription will automatically be downgraded to ‘Basic’”. And the help centre says monthly benefits “reset every month, no matter which plan you’re on”, with “unused benefits roll over to the next month”, so an annual plan is still metered monthly.

Is Joi AI free? What Basic actually gives you

Yes, with limits the company states plainly. The terms say: “We reserve the right to deny the free use to anyone at any time at our own discretion.” The help centre says free accounts “get 6 lifetime image generations to try it out”, and that “generations are stored for 7 days”.

Lifetime means six, ever, not six a month. Anything romantic or explicit is metered in Neurons whether you pay a subscription or not, because Neurons “are used for services which are not included in Subscription”.

Free Neurons exist, but only as giveaways: “We regularly drop freebies, host fun events, and run challenges where you can win extra Neurons” on Discord. There is no free trial of Premium described anywhere we read. The cheapest real test is a Basic account plus the smallest Neuron pack, whose price is shown at checkout.

Neurons: the Joi AI revenue model explained

“Joi AI revenue model” is a search in its own right, and the answer is in section 3.4 of the terms. The subscription buys access; Neurons buy the content. Neurons “are used for services which are not included in Subscription or Bot Subscriptions, including but not limited to romantic, erotic or sexually explicit messages, visual content, or adult-themed scenarios”.

The published rates: a romantic message is 4 neurons “to be read”, a photo view “up to 120 neurons depending on the theme”, a video view “up to 1900 neurons depending on the theme”. Virtual gifts are priced in Neurons too, shown when you pick one.

Two softeners are published. “Our loyal customers may get beneficial pricing which depends on their use of service”, and Premium and Premium Plus subscribers get a 10% discount on Neurons by the interface strings. What is not published is the dollar price of a Neuron, so we cannot convert 1,900 into money. If you subscribe, note the smallest pack price: dividing it by the pack size gives you the cost of a photo view within seconds.

Rules, the safety filter and age checks

The Safety Guidelines page, last updated 23 September 2025, describes three layers: curated training data, a classifier (“Every model response and user message undergoes classification through an additional model (RoBERTa)”), and a prohibited-topics list.

The list bans what you would expect, “Child Exploitation/Pedophilia”, “Zoophilia”, “Necrophilia”, “Incest”, “Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking”, and several things you might not: “Political Opinions”, “Religious and Spiritual Beliefs”, “Medical Advice (unqualified)” and “Financial Advisory”. Hit one and “the bot responds with a pre-prepared, safe message and disengages from the topic”.

The help centre is candid about the cost of that design: “Sometimes – honestly more often than we’d like – it flags things that shouldn’t be flagged. We’re actively working on tuning it.” False flags go to [email protected] with a screenshot.

On real people, the public rule is the celebrity programme itself: official, licensed personas. We found no clause on the pages we read about users uploading photos of third parties, and the interface we saw generates from prompts, not uploads; we note the absence rather than fill it.

Age verification runs through a third party: “JOI uses a trusted third-party provider, VerifyMyAge”, by “Background email verification”, “Facial age estimation” or a government ID “in regions with stricter legal requirements”. The help centre states “JOI does not store copies of your identity documents.” Expect the check “when accessing Premium or explicit content”.

Refunds, cancelling and deleting your account

Refunds: 14 days, three cases

The Refund and Cancellation Policy, last updated 23 September 2025, is more specific than most in this niche. “You are entitled to request the monetary refund within 14 days since the purchase” in three situations. Proven card fraud is refunded in full.

An accidental Neuron pack is refunded in full if unspent and in part if partly spent, “as long as it is your first time requesting this type of refund (one time only)”. Termination by Joi “for any reason, with or without explanation” is refunded pro rata. Termination for a rule violation “or at your request” earns nothing.

Subscriptions are the gap. The help centre: “Subscriptions are generally non-refundable once activated – full Premium access is granted immediately upon purchase.” Requests go to support with an “initial reply … within 72 (seventy-two) hours”. And do not go to your bank first. The policy warns that after a chargeback “we may be required to disclose any and/or all private communications sent/received by you through JOI AI in order to prove the validity of the charges”.

How to cancel

Settings → My Subscriptions → choose the subscription → follow the prompts. Timing is the catch: “Your subscription will be cancelled from the next subscription month following your request to cancel”, and “any fees charged for previous subscription, used or non-used neurons within the current subscription month will not be refunded”. Downgrading to Basic keeps the account and takes effect “at the end of the applicable billing period”.

Deleting the account

Terms section 4.1: “You may terminate your account at any time by deleting your account in the Service. This action is irreversible. If you delete your account, all the data associated with your use of the Service will be removed according to our Privacy Policy.” Deleting also ends Premium, Bot Subscriptions, Neurons and gifts with no refund. We did not read the privacy policy, so the retention period behind “according to our Privacy Policy” is not covered here.

Paying and what your statement shows: joi.com

Premium is bought with “a valid credit or debit card”; other methods are not named on the pages we read. The descriptor is the unusual part. Section 3.2 of the terms: “The payment will be processed securely, and the charge will appear on your bank statement as joi.com.”

Most companion apps promise a neutral name; Joi AI names the site. If discretion on a shared statement matters, that single line decides it. Promo codes exist, and a failed payment has its own help article.

Joi AI vs Candy AI, and vs DarLink AI

Against Candy AI the two share a hidden subscription price and differ on everything after it. Candy AI gives most buyers a 24-hour refund window (its pages read 9 September 2026) and a neutral descriptor; Joi AI gives a 14-day window for three defined cases and a descriptor that reads joi.com. Joi AI publishes per-action Neuron rates; Candy AI publishes none. Pick Candy AI for discretion, Joi AI for knowing what a photo costs in units.

DarLink AI prints $12.99, $27.99 and $49.99 a month on a public plan page, with 2-token images and 20-token videos (read 24 September 2026). Against it Joi AI loses on price transparency and wins on entry cost: DarLink has no free tier on its plan page, Joi AI has Basic with six image generations.

DarLink’s refund page wants a written cancellation notice; Joi AI cancels in settings. Both sell official real-person personas, DarLink as an “Influencer-Specific Subscription”, Joi AI as its celebrity category. All three sit in the September table of our NSFW AI chatbot comparison, next to eight apps read earlier in the month.

What we did not check

We did not create an account, verify our age, buy Neurons or Premium, chat, or generate an image, so we say nothing about output quality, memory, voice calls or video. We did not read the privacy policy or the complaints policy.

Premium prices exist and we did not see them; we would rather say that than repeat a figure from someone else’s review. If we buy a month, this page gets a first-hand section and screenshots.

Joi AI FAQ

Is Joi AI free?

Partly. The Basic account is free and the help centre gives free accounts “6 lifetime image generations”, stored for seven days. Romantic messages, photo views and video views cost Neurons, which you buy or earn in Discord giveaways. The terms reserve the right to “deny the free use to anyone at any time”. Read 24 September 2026.

How much does Joi AI cost?

Joi AI does not publish its Premium prices on any public page; the plan appears inside the account, billed monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, and section 3.6 of the terms says prices “may vary based on region”. What it does publish is the Neuron rate: 4 neurons per romantic message, up to 120 per photo view, up to 1,900 per video view.

What are Neurons on Joi AI?

The pay-per-action currency for anything outside the subscription: romantic or explicit messages, photos, videos and virtual gifts. A romantic message is 4 neurons to read, a photo up to 120, a video up to 1,900. Packs get cheaper per unit as they get larger, and Premium and Premium Plus take 10% off. Unused monthly benefits roll over.

Is Joi AI legit?

It is operated by Novi Limited, Cyprus registration HE 407352, with terms updated 4 June 2026, a refund policy, published safety guidelines and a help centre. Celebrity characters are official, licensed personas. We hold no account and make no claim about output quality.

Is Joi AI safe and private?

Every message passes an automated classifier the safety page names as RoBERTa, and the help centre admits it flags safe content “more often than we’d like”. Age checks run through VerifyMyAge, and Joi says it does not store ID copies. One thing is not private: the terms say the charge “will appear on your bank statement as joi.com”.

Can I get a refund from Joi AI?

Within 14 days, in three cases only: proven card fraud, a first-time accidental Neuron pack purchase (full refund if unspent, partial if partly spent), or Joi ending your subscription for a reason that is not a rule violation. Subscriptions are otherwise “non-refundable once activated”. Replies come within 72 hours.

Is joi.ai the same as joi.com?

Same company, same terms, same accounts in our reading, but joi.com is the explicit “JOI Spicy” site with an 18+ interstitial and NSFW characters on the front page, while joi.ai is the toned-down character-chat front. Age verification triggers “when accessing Premium or explicit content”.

Bottom line

Start with the free Basic account and one small Neuron pack: that tells you the photo price in dollars, which Joi AI will not tell you in advance, and whether the filter gets in your way. Subscribe only after you have seen the Premium price inside the account and decided the joi.com line on your statement is acceptable. The refund policy is better written than most; the subscription is still the part it does not cover.
